PS3 New Design Ultra Slim

In the past 24 hours, Sony Computer Entertainment has held a press conference at the 2012 Tokyo Games Show where they’ve finally revealed the device we’ve been predicting since the beginning of this year. This did not come as a surprise, and also about the design and the specifications, too much had leaked already to allow for any serious surprises. Still unknown to us and the rest of the outside world is what the design looks like internally, and specifically what chips were used and what integration has been achieved. It can’t take long — only until shortly after its release October 5 — before a company like iSuppli or iFixit publishes a teardown of the new console. Of course we’re going to stay on top of that.
For now, without much further ado, here are specifications, pictures and other details of the new, slimmer PlayStation 3 units.
The new model range is referred to as “CECH-4000 series”. In Japan, there will be models; one with a 500GB Hard Disk Drive (CECH-4000C, 29,980 yen) and one with a 250GB HDD (CECH-4000B, 24,980 yen). The latter will come in two colors — ‘Classic White’ (released 22 November) and ‘Charcoal Black’ (released October 4). The 500GB SKU will only be issued in charcoal black.

In Europe and Hong Kong, there will also be a 12GB model, CECH-4000A, on sale from October 12 at 229 euro. No mention yet of details for North America, Latin America or even other Asian territories outside of Japan.
Power consumption has been reduced from 200W to 190W. That suggest there’s no radically new electronics design inside but merely an evolutionary change. Cabinet dimensions have decreased from 290 x 290 x 65 mm to 290 x 230 x 60 mm (width x depth x height) so it got no narrower, a little slimmer but a lot more shallow. The net weight has been lowered from about 2.6 kg to around 2.1 kg. The connections have not changed.
Sony PS3 CECH-4000A with 500GB HDDOne detail we had not foreseen: the new disc loader really uses a sliding lid to cover the disc — not a simple door with a hinge that lifts up.

Will and Kate 'angered and saddened' over publication of topless photos

LONDON: The publication by a French magazine of topless pictures of Prince William's wife Catherine is "grotesque and totally unjustifiable", their office St James's Palace said Friday.
The couple "have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner", the palace said in a statement.
Earlier, it was reported that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge felt "anger and disbelief" and were consulting French lawyers after a magazine Friday published topless pictures of her, according to a royal source.
"We now believe the photographs are genuine," the source said on condition of anonymity. "Their (William and Kate's) general feeling is anger and disbelief. We feel a red line has been crossed."
"In terms of next steps, we are consulting with French lawyers as to what the options are."
The French version of Closer magazine printed photos on the front cover and inside on five pages of Catherine wearing just the bottoms of a black and white bikini while on holiday with William in Provence in the south of France.
The couple are currently in Malaysia on a tour to mark the diamond jubilee of William's grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.
The pictures are a further headache for the royal family, already reeling from the recent publication of nude photos of William's brother Harry in a Las Vegas hotel.
Another palace source said earlier that the publication "turns the clock back 15 years," referring to the intense media attention on William's late mother Diana, who died in a car crash while fleeing paparazzi in Paris in 1997. - AFP

Huge welcome for Will and Kate at KLCC park

KUALA LUMPUR: Prince William and Catherine Middleton arrived Friday at the KLCC park for a cultural walkabout and received a huge welcome from the crowd that had gathered from early morning to greet the royal pair.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge smiled and shook hands with the public through the barricades.
Kate, in a white dress and her hair up in a cool chignon, received flowers from her fans.

Crowd in KLCC for royal walkabout

They had arrived at 10.30 to tremendous cheers and screams from the huge crowd lined up along the roads.
Both the UK and Malaysia flags fluttered proudly as the royal pair smiled and waved to the crowd as they rode in on a buggy.
Some fans had even prepared banners to show their love for the couple.
A big group, including school children and tourists, had gathered much earlier at the park to see the royal pair.
Will and Kate witnessed several cultural performances, including traditional Malay dance and silat during their cultural walkabout.
They later had lunch hosted by the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce at KLCC where William joked that he was glad durian was not on the menu.
He said he had some durian at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's house on Thursday and feared for the safety of the people he met afterwards.
The royal pair then left for the Diamond Jubilee Tea Party at the British High Commissioner's residence.

Muhyiddin condemns film insulting the Prophet Muhammad

KOTA BARU: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has condemned the film "Innocence of Muslims" which mocks and insults Prophet Muhammad, and instructed the authorities to prohibit its distribution in the country.
"We Muslims cannot accept (films which insult Prophet Muhammad). It is a major offence. We cannot allow this, whether it is in the form of films, words or whatever," he said. Muhyiddin was responding to questions from reporters on the cheap film, produced by California-based Israeli Sam Bacile, after opening the Kota Baru Umno delegates meeting.
He said the production of the film was "an evil deed disrespectful of religion".
"It is my personal opinion that we should ban the film. We should not allow any act which insults Prophet Muhammad," he said, and directed the authorities to prevent distribution of the film in the country.
"There is a motive for the production of the film, probably to spark inter-religious clashes which could be detrimental to the world community," he said. - Bernama

Batutut - Crytids

The Batutut is a hominid of legend across Vietnam, Laos and Malaysia and was first sighted in1918 according to local history. Described as being covered from head to toe in hair with the exception of a leathery looking neck and a pot belly, the Batutut is said to be approximately 4 feet tall and sightings of female Batutut describe them as having extremely sagging breasts. Otherwise resembling a human the Batutut is said to walk more like an ape.

Some of the more credible accounts of for the existence of Batutut came between 1970 – early 80s’. John Mackinnon who is a very well known zoologist discovered what were described as footprints akin to that of a human but smaller and were located deep in the Malaysian rain forest. This was the first credible source and was dated 1970. Some time later in 1982 extremely similar footprints were discovered in Vietnam by a well known professor Tran Hong Viet, the Vietnamese call these Batutut ‘Orang Pendek’ which literally means ‘short man’.

In some of the more isolated villages of Sumatra locals claim to have even had close encounters with Batutut, in some cases even offering food and sharing moments watching as the Batutut would eat and speak in an unidentified dialect.

Mystery of Yonaguni Island

The tiny Japanese island of Yonaguni, near Taiwan, has become famous for the huge submerged rock structures found near its shores - the ancient city of a lost civilisation, some claim.

Imposing sets of steps and terraces rise up through the clear water from around 25 metres depth. The structures, with their flat surfaces and near right angles, certainly look deliberately carved (pictured left). Masaaki Kimura, a geologist at the University of the Ryukyus in Okinawa, claims he has identified a huge pyramid, along with castles, monuments and a big stadium, all connected by roads. He says he has also found walls and water channels, as well as quarry marks, stone tools and a stone tablet carved with ancient lettering.

The History of Voodoo

Voodoo is a religion that originated in Africa and was brought to Haiti by slaves, where it is still widely practiced by most inhabitants. Most aspects of this religion are positive and it affects all aspects of the people's lives, such as morality, economics, safety, relationships and health.

There is a revered God, an assortment of spirits, and many rituals. Worshippers communicate with their God through the "loa" or spirits. This relationshiop is based on trust and mutual give and take. The people conduct ceremonies to honor them and loas, in return, are helpful in their lives.

The black magic aspects of this religion play a very minor role and is not typical of voodoo. In the early to mid 1900's, there were exaggerated claims about voodoo and movies portrayed followers as ignorant people who were obsessed with evil. Werewolves, zombies, the casting of spells and the use of voodoo dolls were sensationalized as the common practices of these people.

In actuality the use of black magic is rare but this stereotype remains with us even today.

The use of voodoo dolls is unheard of in Haiti and most places where the religion is practiced. The only recorded serious use of the dolls, among voodoo worshippers, was in the new Orleans area in the early 1900's. Hexes were cast to bring either good or bad luck to another person. The doll was used to symbolize that person. The sticking of pins into the doll was to reinforce and direct the spells that were cast.
